SPIDER VEINS

Spider vein treatment by Fresno’s vein experts.

Spider veins (also called telangiectasias) are small, damaged veins that can appear on the surface of the legs, face, or hands. They are usually not painful or harmful, but some people may wish to treat them for cosmetic reasons.

Spider veins develop as a result of a backup of blood in certain veins, which occurs when the valves in the veins cannot effectively keep blood from flowing backwards in the legs. As blood collects in the veins they begin to expand and dilate, becoming visible under the surface of the skin or within the skin itself.

Spider veins on the face or hands are often the result of tiny blood vessels bursting. Increased pressure or sun damage can cause this to occur.

How Are Spider Veins Treated?

Spider veins and their underlying cause are easily treatable, and our innovative procedures require little-to-no discomfort and downtime. Treatment will depend on many factors, including the current condition of the affected area, and the patient’s health status and history.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is the most effective method of treating the majority of spider veins. An irritating (sclerosing) solution is injected directly into the vein through a tiny micro needle. The vein closes, and then disappears with normal healing. Sclerotherapy has been a well accepted method of treating varicose veins for over 50 years, and has now become the gold standard in spider vein treatment.

Sclerotherapy is the most effective treatment for:

  • Cosmetic leg veins

  • Facial spider veins

  • Hand veins
